SEO improves your business by drawing quality visitors to your website
What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.
It is the “process of increasing the quality and quantity of website traffic by increasing the visibility of a website or a web page to users of a web search engine.”
Simply put, it’s a tool to increase your website traffic. You utilize certain search words so that when a potential customer conducts a search, based on the words they used, your website and business appear in the search results.
The only kicker lies in what words to use to gain high quality visitors to your site.
It is possible to attract all of the internet traffic on Earth. But, if someone visits your site because Google tells them you are a source for Apple computers, when really you are a farmer selling apples, they are not a quality visitor. What you want is to draw visitors to your site that are actually interested in the products you provide.
It’s important to draw in organic visitors that actually care about your company’s services.
How SEO Works
You might think a search engine is just a site where you type a query into a box and Google, Yahoo!, Bing, or whatever search engine you use provides a long list of links to pages which may or may not answer your query. Which is true, but have you ever stopped to think about what is behind these lists of hyperlinks?
Here is how it works: Your search engine includes a crawler that goes out and collects information about all of the articles it can find online. The crawlers deliver all those 1’s and 0’s back to construct an index. That index is then fed through an algorithm that attempts to match that information.
There are a whole lot of variables that go into a search engine algorithm. This is where the people who create content for websites choose what articles and keywords to use so that their websites show up in search engines.
Optimization can take several forms. From making certain the name tags and meta descriptions are enlightening, to pointing inner hyperlinks at pages you are proud of. The goal of optimization is to ensure that your site flows well and meets all expectations; it’s the little odds and ends that must be done to make sure all the little jobs and details are covered.
Organic SEO
Utilizing organic search engine optimization will help customers discover you when they are searching for a service that you provide. If it’s easier for them to find you, it’s more likely they will become a client. Typically, if someone is already searching for services your company provides, it means they are already interested in your business. The most important thing for you is to make sure you stand out from the crowd.
Not to mention, appearing on the first page of a search engine shows that you have potential and customers are drawn to the legitimacy of your services based on your higher ranking.
Unfortunately, results don’t happen overnight. We can’t promise that you will be in the number one spot on a search engine results page, but properly utilizing organic SEO will surely bring in more traffic that is intently looking for the services and products that you offer. It’s better to have fewer clients that are truly interested in what you can do for them, than many, many, visitors that have no desire to stay and learn about you.
Off Page vs On Page SEO
Off Page SEO embodies any efforts taken off a website to improve its search engine rankings.
On Page SEO is more easily controlable, whereas off page SEO is typically not.
For example, being linked by someone to another page is off page SEO because it didn’t directly change anything about your website itself. However, if you improve your page directly by optimizing some images or text, then that’s on page SEO because the change was made directly to your site.
Simply put: off page SEO tells Google what others think about your website based on what content they write and links they share. On page SEO is changes you make to optimize yourself.
